History of Mechanical Citrus Harvesting
1990 to 2008

Robotics

In 2001, the FDOC expressed an interest in pursuing research & provided some funding on robotic citrus harvesting. This interest was driven by the fact that none of the mechanical harvesters under development could successfully harvest fresh market citrus or late season Valencia. Burks et al. 2005 (7-1) has discussed the history of robotics & the research efforts being made by the University of Florida to advance this technology for citrus harvesting.
